Un niño con autismo aprendió inglés sin que nadie en su entorno hablara el idioma
Leonardo, un adolescente de 13 años que vive en Chile y tiene el trastorno del espectro autista (TEA), aprendió a hablar en inglés cuando era niño a pesar de que tenía un contacto mínimo con ese idioma. Lo consiguió al mirar videos en internet y jugar videojuegos, y es el primer caso documentado en América del Sur de un inusual fenómeno conocido como “bilingüismo espontáneo”. El hecho llamó la atención de neurocientíficos de Chile y Argentina que se pusieron a estudiarlo, con su consentimiento y el de los padres, a través de diferentes pruebas en inglés y español.

A child with autism learned English without anyone in his environment speaking the language
Leonardo, a 13-year-old teenager living in Chile who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learned to speak English as a child despite having minimal contact with the language. He achieved this by watching videos on the internet and playing video games, and is the first documented case in South America of an unusual phenomenon known as “spontaneous bilingualism.” The phenomenon caught the attention of neuroscientists in Chile and Argentina, who began studying it, with his consent and that of his parents, through various tests in English and Spanish.
