Dr. Adolfo García is appointed member of the Steering Committee of the international research network

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Adolfo García, Scientific Director of LPEN (INCYT, INECO Foundation), has been appointed member of the Steering Committee of the Thematic Network «Translation, Research, Empiricism, Cognition». This entity, which brings together researchers from dozens of universities distributed around the world, is the main focus of knowledge about the mental processes involved in translation and interpretation in bilinguals.

Launch of the Competition in Translation and Interpretation Questionnaire

We are pleased to announce the launch of the web page of the Competition in Translation and Interpretation Questionnaire, a tool validated through sophisticated statistical methods to characterize various aspects of skills in different translation modalities. The questionnaire, conceived by Dr. Adolfo García (INCYT and INECO Foundation) and built in conjunction with institutions from Germany and Latin America, is available in three languages (Spanish, English and German) and is freely available.

Dr. Adolfo García participates in an international project on cognitive processes during writing in English as a foreign language

Dr. Adolfo García, Scientific Director of the LPEN (INCYT and Fundación INECO), participated as a project leader in a series of research workshops held at the University of Applied Sciences in Zurich (Switzerland). The ongoing study, which involves Swiss and Brazilian institutions, combines various behavioral and oculometric methods to investigate the cognitive processes underlying the writing of texts in English as a foreign language.

Dr. Adolfo García, Scientific Director of the LPEN (INCYT and Fundación INECO), gave the closing conference at the Second International Congress of Translation, Interpretation and Cognition, organized by the Johannes Gutenberg University in Germersheim, Germany. His presentation, entitled «Networking within: Connectivity approaches to the translating and interpreting brain», offered a comprehensive look at new approaches to brain connectivity in the study of diverse cros-linguistic processes in bilingual populations.

Dr. Adolfo García is awarded research fund of the Chinese government

Dr. Adolfo García, Scientific Director of the LPEN (INCYT and INECO Foundation), together with a team of international experts, was awarded a three-year research fund by the Chinese government. During this period, various studies will be carried out to understand the cognitive changes that bilingual young people undergo through intensive periods of training in interpretation and translation. The project, entitled «Assessing the scope of expertise-driven advantages in bilinguals: A comparison of interpreters and translators», will be funded by the General Research Fund of the Hong Kong Research Council.

Adolfo García spoke at the First Seminar on Linguistic Governance of Argentina

Dr. Adolfo M. García, Scientific Director of the LPEN (INCYT, INECO Foundation), spoke at the inaugural panel of the First Seminar on Linguistic Governance in the Argentine University System. The event was attended by almost 200 authorities from universities and other institutions linked to higher education. It took place in the San Martin Palace and was organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology of the Nation.

In his speech, he will go through various neuroscientific findings that invite us to rethink the teaching of foreign languages. The event will take place on Monday, June 24 at the Libertador Hall of the San Martín Palace (Arenales 761, CABA).

Researchers from INCYT and the INECO Foundation lead nation-wide project hosted by the British Council

A team of experts from INCYT and the INECO Foundation, led by Dr. Adolfo García, has been selected by the British Council to carry out a nation-wide research project. The initiative seeks to examine the possibilities, needs, and challenges surrounding the use of English in the Argentine higher education system.

Special issue of Perspectives, edited by Adolfo García

Dr. Adolfo García, Scientific Director of LPEN (INCYT, Fundación INECO), has guest-edited a special issue on cognitive translatology for the journal Perspectives.
