La restricción de pronombres abiertos (OPC) establece que, en los idiomas de sujetos nulos, los sujetos de pronombres abiertos de las cláusulas incrustadas no pueden estar vinculados por los antecedentes wh- o cuantificadores. Mediante la administración de dos cuestionarios escritos, examinamos la OPC en 246 hablantes nativos monolingües de tres dialectos del español, hablados en Barranquilla (Colombia), Santiago (Chile) y Buenos Aires (Argentina). Probamos por separado las predicciones de que los pronombres abiertos no pueden ser limitados por los antecedentes wh- (Experimento 1) y que no pueden ser limitados por los antecedentes de los cuantificadores (Experimento 2). Encontramos que el OPC no era operativo en ninguno de estos dialectos. En el Experimento 1, el porcentaje de respuestas ligadas fue aproximadamente el mismo que el porcentaje de respuestas anafóricas. En el Experimento 2, el porcentaje de respuestas encuadradas fue significativamente mayor que el porcentaje de respuestas anafóricas. Se examinan las consecuencias tanto para las teorías de la resolución de los pronombres en los idiomas de materias nulas como para las teorías de la adquisición del primer y segundo idiomas.

The overt pronoun constraint (OPC) states that, in null subject languages, overt pronoun subjects of embedded clauses cannot be bound by wh- or quantifier antecedents. Through the administration of two written questionnaires, we examined the OPC in 246 monolingual native speakers of three dialects of Spanish, spoken in Barranquilla (Colombia), Santiago (Chile), and Buenos Aires (Argentina). We tested separately the predictions that overt pronouns cannot be bound by wh– antecedents (Experiment 1) and that they cannot be bound by quantifier antecedents (Experiment 2). We found that the OPC was not operative in any of these dialects. In Experiment 1, the percentage of bound answers was approximately the same as the percentage of anaphoric answers. In Experiment 2, the percentage of bound answers was significantly higher than the percentage of anaphoric answers. Implications both for theories of pronoun resolution in null subject languages and for theories of first and second language acquisition are discussed.
