Adolescence: for scientists, now lasts from 10 to 24 years
The independence of parents, access to work and paternity are postponed; An editorial in the journal Lancet Child and Adolescent Health states that this age is more in line with current reality.
«There are multiple conceptions of adolescence, some more biological, others more sociological, others more psychological,» emphasizes Adolfo García, scientific director of the Laboratory of Experimental Psychology and Neuroscience (LPEN) of the Institute of Cognitive and Translational Neuroscience (Incyt, Conicet, Ineco and the Favaloro Foundation) – depending on which perspective is adopted, a more or less extensive cut-off point can be based.In the second decade of life there are genetic, hormonal, neuroanatomical, neurofunctional and sociocultural changes that influence each other to give rise to to cognitive and behavioral patterns that rarely manifest in previous and subsequent stages. »
